How To Choose The Right Central Water Filter System For Your Home

Clean and pure drinking water is a must have for every home. Water is often highly contaminated these days due to growing human industry. When you decide to buy a central water filter system for your home the first thing you need to do is to determine the type of water your house is getting and then researching the wide variety of filtration systems available on the market.

The best way to determine the type of water your house is receiving is to get the water tested by sending a sample to an EPA certified lab or by buying a water testing kit. Then you must decide the type of system that is suitable to your needs based on the results and your budget. Some of the common filtration systems are as follows:

1. Carbon Filters – These filters are very common and come in various forms like granular, solid carbon block and silver impregnated charcoal. They are rated in microns – the lower the better and usually have a life of six to nine months.

2. Magnetic water Treatment Systems – Water is passed over or through a magnetic field, rearranging the ions in the water.

3. Water Ionizers – Magnetically charged plates are used to separate the incoming water into acidic and alkaline streams. Acidic water streams are often wasted and this must be taken into account. This system is commonly sold for faucet mounted or below the counter applications.

Some water filter systems for the home are as follows:

Whirlpool Central Water Filtration system – This is a very low maintenance system that cleans itself and provides the entire house with clean and filtered water taking care of your drinking, cooking, showering and laundry needs. It comes with the trademarked Filtersense technology that automatically flushes, cleans and drains the internal filter every 14 days. You will never need to replace the filter. It maintains the household water pressure and reduces chlorine taste and odor and sediment. It has a high flow valve and is Energy star qualified. It comes with a Do-It-Yourself installation kit.

Homespring Central Water Filtration system by GE – This system is installed at the point where water enters the house ensuring filtered water from every tap. Once it is installed it starts working and there is no on and off switch. It works of the existing water pressure and does not use electricity. Electricity is only used to activate the controller to start the daily backwash cycle. It physically blocks and removes parasites, turbidity and particulates. The cloudiness is eliminated from the drinking water and healthy natural minerals are allowed to pass through.  The activated carbon filter eliminates chlorine taste and odor.

Above mentioned are only few of the very many options available. It is important to consider your personal budget and requirements before choosing a system. A good place to start is a home improvement store like Lowes or Home Depot.
